2 Things You Should Know About God's Voice

You should have seen the look on his face. This young man went into shock. He was so overwhelmed by God’s surprise and love. My obedience to God’s voice impacted this young man’s life forever. God wants to...

     1. He speaks through Jesus:

“God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world” Hebrews 1:1-3.

God spoke to people through the mouths of prophets, priest, kings, and judges in the Old Testament. Today, because of Jesus, everyone has an opportunity to have a personal relationship with God and directly hear His voice. God speaks to humanity through Jesus. Jesus is the Word who became flesh and walked among men (John 1:14). This means the written word of God also known as the Bible is equivalent and just as powerful as the Spoken Word of Jesus. There will never be a time God is not speaking to you. As long as there is a Bible accessible, you have the ability to receive God’s voice into your life. God is always speaking but we are not always listening.

From the age of sixteen I had dreamed of going to bible college. I wasn’t for sure where, but knew I needed to get trained for ministry. Around August of 2009, while working for a carpet cleaning company, I started having this overwhelming desire to move to Dallas, Texas and attend Christ For the Nations Bible College. At this time I was twenty four years old and had somewhat given up on the possibility of attending a bible school. One day while seeking God for direction, I decided to open the Bible to a random place hoping God would show me what I needed to do. The random verse I opened to was Isaiah 45:2, which reads,

“I will go before you And make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron.”

After reading this, a peace settled on me like a warm blanket and I knew God was wanting me to make the move. I knew He was going before me to make provision and prepare the way. God’s word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). He is always speaking to us through the Bible.

     2. He speaks through the Holy Spirit:

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” John 14:26.

God has given us the Holy Spirit to be our helper in life. He lives on the inside of every believer. So If He lives on the inside of us, He speaks from within us. His voice is a still small voice. His voice is a knowing inside our “gut.” He guides us through life with His peace. He leads us with small promptings. The Spirit of God and the Word of God will never contradict one another. They are always in agreement. So, if you feel like the Holy Spirit is telling you something that doesn’t line up with the Bible, you then know you are hearing another voice and can dismiss it as a lie.

Not too long ago I was at church and someone walked up to me and handed me a $100 bill. They told me God wanted them to give me this money. So I thanked them and left the church all excited about God’s blessing. A little later on that evening, I walked into a store and saw a teenager that use to be involved in the youth ministry I pastored but hadn’t came in a long time. After catching up and attempting to encourage him, I walked out and got in my truck to leave. As I am pulling off the Holy Spirit tells me to go back in and give him the $100 bill I had been given a little earlier. He told me the reason it was given to me was because He needed to get it to that young man. He told me to tell him that he loved him and knew exactly where he was and knew the desires he had in his heart. The Holy Spirit also told me to tell him to put Jesus first in his life and He would bring him everything he needed and desired. So I go back in the store and did all that God asked me to.

You should have seen the look on his face. This young man went into shock. He was so overwhelmed by God’s surprise and love. My obedience to God’s voice impacted this young man’s life forever. God wants to do the same through your life. He wants to love people through you. God is always speaking to you. He wants to give you eyes that see and ears that hear. He has an amazing plan for your life but needs your ear and cooperation in order to get you to a place you can receive all the beautiful things He has in store for you. Listen, obey and be blessed!
