Stillness

Stillness is reverence to God's presence...

"Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted among the earth." Psalm 46:10

In today's society we are fast-paced and always on the go. This has brought forth many wonderful things to society such a innovation and the ability to do more in less time, but I cannot help but to think this has hurt us in our sensitivity to hearing God's voice.

"Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted among the earth." Psalm 46:10, NKJV

In this verse it states that it is actually in the "stillness," that we know He is God. Well, what does that actually mean? You see, I firmly believe that stillness is what brings closeness. How many of you have ever felt God the most when you were being still and actually listening? I know I have! Just as in any relationship, the way you get to know someone is by spending time with them. In this manner,  you are able to learn the nature of that person. It is the same way with Daddy God. I believe this verse is directly referring to the stillness being a knowing of God's presence. Stillness is the action of being reverent to God's presence. As defined in Webster's Dictionary; being reverent to something means to show "honor or respect that is felt or shown to (someone or something)."

"And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19, ESV

When I was in my first year of college I remember having to pay out of pocket for books. Boy-oh-boy were they expensive! After realizing in the "natural" that I would not be able to afford the $500.00 worth of books needed; I began to pray. I felt as if the Lord prompted me to fast a certain thing in my life and so in obedience I did. Because of fasting this particular thing it allowed me more time to sit still and just talk to God. After doing so, it was not one day later that someone "out of the blue" offered me two of the books I needed. From there the Lord ended up providing all of the books that were needed. How awesome it that?

Beloved, if you are believing God for something whether it be direction or anything, the still-ness is what is going to provide an atmosphere to hear His voice. It is in the stillness that you will find peace that "surpasses all understanding." (Philippians 4:7, NKJV) I know life can be busy and there will always be endless needs to be met, but the greatest accomplishments and the most profound moments you will have are when you take the time to be still. In this still-ness, you will know, that He is God.
